Our Work · Spirits
Artisanal mezcal and tequila that carry the story of Agave Nation forward — and return commercial revenue to the seeds, science, and stewardship behind them.
Sin Nombre & the Sincosa Brand
Sin Nombre, Inc. is the industry’s first public benefit company of its kind, providing brand, distribution, sales, and marketing across North America for best-in-class mezcal and tequila under the Sincosa brand. It exists to provide a platform for the small artisanal distillers and producers of Agave Nation — using its distribution system and high-credibility brand identity to maximize the revenue captured for producers on the ground, and providing revenues in support of the entire, holistic supply chain that underlies those products — from microbes and bats to agaves and the landscapes they inhabit.
The Financial Logic
Particularly in its early stages, commercial revenue from the public benefit company cannot fund the entire value chain Agave Nation envisions. But it provides something rarer: a regular, flexible source of support for the work that is often hardest for non-profits, smallholders, and local communities to fund – baseline science, specialized technical assistance, access to non-traditional financing, and the operating costs of building and maintaining local capacity.
Artisanal producers increase revenue from production, and a share of profits from the public benefit corporation return to the network.
Agave Nation pays for necessary coordination, science, and technical needs, and funds early project costs and local capacity.
We facilitate access to private and public grants, conservation finance, and corporate ESG capital seeking impact at scale.
Project 1 · Core Capacity
The coordination and technical support services of Agave Nation are its most essential functions: facilitating partner communication and relationships; funding essential science; providing access to expert support, education, financing solutions, and technical capacity to drive landscape-scale restoration; and distributing commercial revenue to partners to maintain and build capacity. Sincosa commercial revenue supports most, but not all, of these core operating expenses – with key program staff from Bat Conservation International, Borderlands Restoration Network, BlueCommons, and Sin Nombre leading the executive committee, and Culp & Kelly and CK Blueshift providing expert, low-cost legal and technical support.
